En Los Ángeles hospital en la década de 1920, Alejandría es un niño de recuperarse de una fractura de un brazo. Ella se hace amiga de Roy Walker, una película hombre de truco con las piernas paralizadas después de una caída. A petición de ella, Roy le dice una historia elaborada alrededor de seis hombres de muy variadas procedencias que están en una misión para matar a un corrupto gobernador de la provincia. Entre los capítulos de la historia, Roy seduce Alejandría a scout del hospital de farmacia de la morfina. Como Roy fantástico cuento se acerca a su final, la Muerte parece al alcance de la mano.
