Documental sobre Juan José Sebreli, un intelectual argentino caracterizado por haber ido contra la corriente durante toda su vida. El film muestra cómo, fiel a su estilo, Sebreli escribe un ensayo especialmente conflictivo para sus conciudadanos en el que desmitifica a cuatro de sus íconos más queridos: Gardel, Evita, el Che y Maradona. El libro gana el Premio Casa de América. Sebreli viaja a Madrid para recibirlo mientras que, simultáneamente, el gobierno nacional elige los mismos cuatro íconos como tema de representación para la Feria del libro de Frankfurt. A partir de allí se desata una polémica pública.
