En 1974, Yorkshire era una zona devastada por el miedo, la desconfianza y la corrupción. El periodista Eddie Dunford está dispuesto a desentrañar el laberinto de mentiras y engaños que rodea la investigación policial de una serie de secuestros de niños. Cuando la pequeña Clara Kemplay desaparece, Eddie y su colega Barry convencen a su director para que les deje investigar la relación de estos casos con dos raptos similares que se produjeron diez años antes. Pero, cuando aparece un cuerpo mutilado en una obra de un magnate local, Eddie y Barry se ven envueltos en un mundo de amenazas, revelaciones espantosas y brutalidad policial. Primera parte de la miniserie británica "Red Riding", compuesta por tres largometrajes basados en las cuatro novelas negras de David Peace.
