Castle Rock, Nueva Inglaterra, es un lugar agradable para vivir y crecer y Sheriff Alan Pangborn se mueve desde la gran ciudad a la ciudad esperando una vida tranquila. Cuando Leland Gaunt se abre la tienda Necesario de las Cosas, parece que el objeto de deseo de cada habitante. Los cargos pequeñas cantidades a las cosas, sino que se pide una broma para cada uno de ellos en contra de otro habitante. Pronto el infierno se rompe suelto en la ciudad con las muertes, la violencia y los disturbios y la Sheriff Pangborn descubre que Leland Gaunt es el mismo diablo. Además, el Flaco es la manipulación de la población como títeres a explorar la debilidad y la codicia de cada persona.
